What do we do?
Outside Light is unashamedly founded in Jesus Christ and firmly rooted in him, with clear Christian intent and purpose. It is now a part of the Christian registered charity, The Matrix Trust..
We have two clear aims: to reach the world outside of church walls with the Good News of Jesus Christ; and to encourage those within the church to come with us.
We operate in separate locations and therefore our activity is different depending on the location and need in a typical area.
Generally we meet as a team prior to going out, we pray together and discuss our aims for the evening. Each team is marked by a deep commitment to one another, we believe our effectiveness comes from having teams that are close and supporting one another. We then move to our location for the evening and engage with groups of people; we may do this through playing a game of football, through holding a barbecue or limitless different forms. Our aim is to show people that we value them, that we care for them and that we want them to have a chance to hear the best news in the world that they have a God who loves them and who wants to rescue and restore.
We read in the Bible that Jesus said – “Go into the world and tell people the good news” Mark 16:15
We aim to do that through both word and deed, we do not have a hidden agenda, we are very clear with our aims and even clearer that we love people no matter what background or age they are, or what they believe. Neither do we force our beliefs on others - we simply sow the seeds and nurture their growth or watch it wither - when that happens we pray and continue to love.
We currently operate in three locations and are in talks to develop this to more areas in the following months. We would typically choose an area where there is the greatest need, it may be youth problems, it may be a deprived area, wherever it is felt there is a need. We work with local churches to encourage a base of volunteers from across denominations. We have teams who share the gospel, teams who play sport, teams that pray, teams that provide craft, teams that provide a listening ear...really it is endless.
