Locations - Knaphill, Woking, Surrey

"The Knaphill team currently go out to the Vyne field. Prior to starting a cell the team will pray and identify a need in the area. Within Knaphill there had been a huge need for facilities to be provided for the young people for a number of years.

Complaints had been received by Surrey Police repeatedly for this area about noise and anti-social behaviour. This seemed like the perfect spot for Outside Light. The team comprises usually around 5 volunteers who come from a variety of backgrounds, ages, denominations and locations; however, they all have a common unity in Christ and a common belief that Jesus commanded his followers to take the good news to the end of the earth.

The Knaphill team engages people on sports fields by providing hot drinks through the winter, playing sport, offering prayer, listening, surveys, giving out information and any variety of methods in order to engage and to show young people they're valued..

The team has encouraged and supported a local community youth group who have set up a facility within the local community centre adjacent to the field. We now provide regular volunteers to help run this drop-in style youth club and have been encouraged to see that anti-social behaviour has fallen in the area, with the local Police reporting a 25% reduction in reported disturbance. As we seek to affect people’s eternities we are only too aware that eternity begins now.

We are looking to see this group grow into other sectors of the community, we would like to see our work develop into the more elderly and lonely members of this area.

We have worked with Knaphill Residents Association, The Alpha Hospital, local councilors, Surrey Police, Woking Borough Council, the local Secondary School and many other organisations in this location." George Osborn
