Growth into Other Areas
The work expanded into Knaphill in April 2008 as the result of people from other churches in St John’s and Knaphill joining The Gloster Road Group as volunteers. Because of this and as a consequence of the vision and prayer that work would expand into other areas, it was felt inappropriate to continue operating as the project of one church alone, and so the decision was made to cease The Gloster Road Group and commence a new stand-alone project - Outside Light. This was then set up as a limited company, but with the continuing support of New Life Church and with the growing support of other churches too.
In April 2010 the decision was made to link-up with The Matrix Trust, who are a Guildford-based Christian charity with a fantastic reputation as well as a well-honed team inlcuding administration experts. This meant that Outside Light was able to de-register as a limited company and therfore now have much less admin work to worry about, which frees them to undertake more street work.
Branching In
As well as growth into other geographical areas, there is vision too for growth into other areas of society. More volunteers are expressing a heart for those who are elderly, those with disabilities and others who are alone, stuck inside, at home.
In a broken world there are always going to be people who need kindness and support. Outside Light has the potential, we believe, to provide the networking resources that are necessary in order to co-ordinate the many active Christians around Woking who have a heart for this work.
