Locations - Goldsworth Park

Working out of St Andrew's Church on Goldsworth Park, this new cell comprises volunteers from the nearby Lakeside Fellowship Church on Goldsworth Park, Holy Trinity Church in Knaphill, Christ Church in Woking centre, and St John's Church in St Johns.

Goldsworth Park is a development of some 4500 houses and at the time it was built it was the largest of its type in Europe. Although largely the estate is made up of private residential property, there are one or two areas here where there is a degree of poverty combined with numerous young people with not very much to do. The consequence of this is that behaviour sometimes declines to levels where damage is done.

Outside Light has been visiting the area for the past few months, during the dark nights, and has made contact with several small groups of young people with a view to developing relationships further as the evenings become lighter. This is still very much an exploratory exercise so far as our work is concerned. Because of Goldsworth Park's size, it's hard to know where exactly we should focus. So it is with this in mind that we continue to meet, and pray, and walk around the area so that we can develop a better feel for the issues that are there, and how we should approach them.

There have already been some additional contacts made with residents and we'd hope to see these develop in time as well. We're very keen for other volunteers to join us. This is a huge development with, we believe, a lot of needs.
